Catholic Defection Changes

CountMeOut.ie has recently updated their information regarding the formal defection process from the Catholic Church. If you are considering leaving the Catholic Church, please read their information at "Suspension of the Defection Process" ,

Essentially, the Catholic Church has modified Canon Law to remove all references to the formal act of defection. It does not appear to be acting on any new requests for this process, which was essentially an annotation in the baptismal record.

It's important to remind everyone that the defection was never equal to a Debaptism, as the Catholic church does not recognize the concept (at least not since it burned witches). This is also not equal to excommunication.

The Debaptist Church still contends that receiving a Debaptism triggers automatic excommunication and can also be considered an official rejection of the church, but again, this is not the same as a defection from the church.

I received my official defection notice from the local Bishop yesterday. They are still doing them.

Here is what he sent me..

"I have received your e-mail message dated April 9, 2012 wherein you request to defect formally from the Catholic Church.

In accordance with your request, I have directed the parish of St. Francis Xavier in *** to make a notation in your record of baptism that you have defected formally from the Catholic Church and that you no longer wish to be understood as being a member of the Catholic communion. While the record of your baptism in the Catholic Church cannot and will not be erased, any certificate of baptism issue hereafter will indicate clearly that you have renounced your membership in the Church and that you no longer consider yourself a part of it. Contrary to what you have read, it is not possible to be "de-baptized".

I hope this meets with your satisfaction.

If you should have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me."

My response... "Thanks Rev., how do i get an copy of the re-issued certificate?"

I will hang it beside my Debaptized certificate!
